CHANGES TO MAJOR GUIDESHEETS FOR FALL 2009
All major guidesheets have been revised for Fall 2009. Highlights of the changes are as follows:
Change to GE Foundations Math requirement (some guidesheets): On the old guidesheets, students in all majors were required to complete MATH 1000 (Algebra for College Students). Some majors have kept the MATH 1000 requirement. Other majors are requiring MATH 1010 or MATH 1016 or MATH 1030 or MATH 1044 or MATH 1054. Other majors are giving students a choice of two or more of these math courses.
Change to GE Distribution Requirements (on all B.S., B.F.A, and B.I.D.) major guidesheets): On the new guidesheets for all B.S., B.F.A., and B.I.D. degree majors, the number of GE Distribution credits required has been significantly reduced. The number of credits required in the Humanities area has been reduced from 9 to 6; the number of credits required in the Social Sciences area has been reduced from 9 to 6; the number of credits required in the Science/Math area has been reduced from 10-11 to 7; and the 2-3 credit Health/PhysEd area has been eliminiated. These changes do NOT apply to B.A. degree guidesheets.
Elimination of GE Concentration Requirement (all guidesheets): The two GE Concentration courses (6 to 8 credits) previously required on most guidesheets have been eliminated.
Note: Many guidesheets also feature changes to Major requirements and Additional requirements.
STUDENTS IMPACTED BY NEW GUIDESHEETS
Students entering Kean as freshmen in Fall 2009 must follow the new guidesheets (marked Effective Date: Fall 2009).
Students entering Kean as transfers in Fall 2009 were evaluated using the old guidesheets but can choose to follow the new guidesheets.
Students who entered Kean in Spring 2009 and earlier will generally follow the guidesheets in effect when they entered Kean; however, these students can choose to follow the new guidesheets if it is to their benefit.
