Unique
Program with Extensive Global Experience Component
Most institutions offer a general MBA degree and provide as an option a concentration in global management or international business. The Kean MBA-GM is not a concentration, but rather a specialized MBA degree. The Kean MBA-GM program offers a wider and deeper selection of global-focused courses, experiences, and training in global business issues, problems, and opportunities. In addition, the MBA-GM at Kean University has a strong required actual global experience that sets it apart from other programs.
The three distinctive components of Kean’s Global MBA program together provide graduates with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to manage multicultural and multinational workforces effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Core knowledge in Key Business Disciplines (e.g. marketing, accounting, finance)
- Advanced Knowledge in Global Management Issues (e.g. global leadership, global marketing strategies)
- Extensive Global Experience (e.g. study abroad, global internships, international learning business tours)
Core
Knowledge in Key Business Disciplines
This component of the Kean MBA-GM program provides students with rigorous exposure to the theoretical concepts, analytical techniques, and competencies essential to understanding business and organizational processes. An important objective of the Kean MBA-GM program is to create a global mind set among the students, so traditional subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing are taught, not as special areas of expertise but, as basic tools for managerial decision-making in the global environment.
Advanced
Knowledge in Global Management Issues
The integrated and cross-functional curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s rapidly changing business environments. Students acquire skills with a strong emphasis in such areas as: leadership, team management, negotiation and entrepreneurial strategies and processes, technology evaluation and application, problem-solving and decision-making techniques, global awareness, and total quality management process development. The Kean EMBA program educates students to be confident and skilled in the power and capabilities of information technology use in management and operation. The curriculum is designed to train students in cross-cultural sensitivity and to create an appreciation of the challenges of managing in a multi-cultural business environment. Case studies are used extensively throughout the curriculum to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Extensive
Global Experience
The importance of actual global experience cannot be over-emphasized.
The structured and supervised extensive global experience component
of the Kean MBA-GM is designed to give the student actual experience
in living and working in a global environment. Students acquire
this global experience through participation in a set of required
activities from among a variety of options including study abroad,
international business study tours, business internships in foreign
countries, and domestic internships in global businesses.
Study Abroad
Through a series of joint programs with other MBA granting institutions
around the globe students can fulfill some of their course requirements
studying at universities in other countries. This gives the Kean
MBA-GM student valuable experience living in another culture and
interacting with professionals from other countries. Cooperating
institutions currently include:
- Groupe Ecole Superieure De Pau, France
- Este School of Management, University of Deusto, Spain
- Stockholm University School of Business, Sweden
International Business Study Tour
Two or three week study tours give students the opportunity to
experience first hand the managerial, political, and cultural
influences that affect a country's business practices. Students
meet with managers, executives, and government officials; visit
businesses and factories; and meet graduate business students.
Business Internship/Practicum in a Foreign
Country
Through a comprehensive network of businesses around the globe,
Kean MBA-GM students can complete a business internship or practicum
in a foreign country, gaining invaluable experience in dealing
with different cultural issues and business practices..
Domestic Internship in a Global Business
An alternative to the foreign business internship is a domestic
internship in a global business. Kean University has arrangements
with several global businesses in the area. Students have the
opportunity to put into practice in a multi-cultural business
environment the knowledge and skills they have gained through
the MBA-GM program.

Capstone
Requirement - Global Business Simulation Competition
For the program capstone requirement, Kean MBA-GM student teams
are part of a global competition in a global business simulation
game against teams from over 50 countries. Students work in groups
and integrate all the knowledge they have acquired by making decisions
in all functional areas in a simulated global environment.
Second Language
Proficiency
All Kean MBA-GM students must exhibit a proficiency in a second
language before graduation. Approved second languages currently
include Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese,
and Russian. Additional second languages may be offered in the
future.
Opportunities
for Graduates
The global market was once the domain of large corporations but
is now available to any entrepreneur with the initiative, knowledge
and skills to operate internationally. There is a growing shortage
of global managers. Business opportunities in both the service
and manufacturing sectors are expanding. Entrepreneurs and venture
capitalists are taking advantage of these opportunities. Small
businesses routinely reach web customers in any country, in any
time zone. Graduates of the Kean MBA-GM program are prepared to
tackle the complexities of managing in the global environment
and thus are well-positioned to take advantage of the growing
shortage in global managers.
Comprehensive
Program, Flexible Schedules
The Kean MBA-GM program is structured to allow students to hold
full-time jobs while pursuing a graduate degree through evening
and Saturday classes. The course scheduling is flexible enough,
however, so students who wish may attend full-time. The program
also allows students to pursue a general business degree or to
choose a concentration in the business functional disciplines
of accounting, management, marketing, and finance.
Personal
Attention by Specialized Faculty
To provide the necessary mentoring and the attention required
for developing each student’s global mindset and leadership
skills, the Kean MBA-GM program is highly selective and is taught
by qualified faculty that specialize in the various issues of
global management.
