MBA in Global Management

Core Knowledge in Key Business Disciplines - 18 credits

The core knowledge courses cover the basic functional areas in business. While covering the basic issues in each functional area, each of these courses has a strong emphasis on the global environment. The purpose of the core knowledge courses is to develop analytical competencies, and to relate the specific-skills set associated with the functional areas of business management: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing. These courses ensure a common body of knowledge, which provide students with a rigorous exposure to the theoretical concepts, analytical techniques, and competencies essential to understanding business and organizational processes in the global environment. The core knowledge courses are:

ACCT 5010 Accounting for Managers 3 credits
ECO 5020 Managerial Economics 3 credits
FIN 5300 Business Finance 3 credits
MGS 5010 Strategic Management 3 credits
MGS 5110 Quantitative Methods in Management Science* 3 credits
MKT 5400 Marketing Management 3 credits

* PA 5031 Quantitative Methods for Public Management may be substituted for MGS 5110

Advanced Knowledge in Global Management - 24 credits

These courses are designed to build on the strong foundation of the core knowledge courses. While the core knowledge courses provide the student with a strong base of theories and tools in the various functional areas of business, the advanced knowledge courses are designed to develop the understanding how these theories and tools can be applied in the global business environment.
The advanced knowledge in global management courses are divided into two groups; required courses (18 credits) and elective courses (6 credits).

The required courses (18 credits) are:

GMBA 5065 Global Marketing Strategy 3 credits
GMBA 5075 International Management 3 credits
GMBA 5660 Ethical and Legal Issues in Operating Globally 3 credits
GMBA 5680 Management and Leadership in the Global Environment   3 credits
GMBA 5785 Advanced Seminar in Cross-Cultural Management Issues   3 credits
GMBA 5885 Strategic Management of Global Information Systems 3 credits

The elective courses (6 credits) give the students the opportunity to further broaden their global focus by choosing courses that concentrate on global aspects of business functions that they are interested in and that are not covered in the required courses. Students who have a very particular area of interest are encouraged to explore it by developing and writing a graduate thesis under the supervision of an appropriate faculty member. It is recommended that students consult their academic advisor prior to choosing the elective courses.



Global Experience - 6 credits

An essential part of the MBA program in Global Management is the global experience requirement. Students must choose 6 credits from the following global experiences:

GMBA 5710 Global Business Travel/Learn 3 credits
GMBA 5750 Global Consulting Project 3 credits
GMBA 5760 Global Internship I 3 credits
GMBA 5761 Global Internship II 3 credits
GMBA 5790 Cultural Immersion Program 3 credits

In order to fulfill the global experience requirement, students need to do at least one of these courses abroad. It is recommended that students consult with their academic advisor prior to registering for any of the global experience courses.



Specialized Area - 9 credits

The students are required to take 9 credits in a business area in which they would like to gain profound knowledge. The following are the specialization areas and courses available. Additional specialization areas can be offered, if desired. Students are advised to consult with their faculty advisor.

Global Business Simulation - 3 Credits

This is an integrative course required of all students in their final semester. The course is based on a global business simulation game. The students work in groups and integrate all the knowledge they acquired by making decisions in a simulated global environment in all functional areas. The students compete in a global business game with participants from all over the globe.
