    K
ean University’s Jewish Culture Club student members continue to participate in national Hillel’s Soref Initiative for Emerging Campuses and remained interested in events organized by Yad Regional Council (a consortium of students’ Jewish organizations at 16 central New Jersey colleges and universities).

The 2008-2009 academic year was an exciting and active one. Many of the club’s events revolved around seasonal holidays, including the annual Chanukah party.

In November, 2008, JCC members played an important role in representing the club and the Jewish Studies Program at events during the university’s International Education Week.  JCC members stayed in touch with each other throughout the year by means of its email network, informing each other of current events, lectures, jobs and internship opportunities, and new courses. Museum internships constituted a subject of special interest. For advice, contact the JCC (jcc@Kean.edu) or Professor Tom Banit (tbanit@Kean.edu). Or contact directly the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Lisa Yavnai, Director, Visiting Scholar Programs, at 202-314-7829 or dorot@ushmm.org) or the Museum of Jewish Heritage –A Living Memorial (Mira Abramsohn, Museum Educator for Internships, at 646-437-4303 or mabramsohn@mjhnyc.org). JCC members also explored opportunities with Jewish Family Service staff in Edison, NJ.

For the Spring semester, the JCC is planning a number of events, including a Purim party, a Passover seder, and group Shabbat dinners. All Kean University students with an interest in learning about Jewish life through cultural events, and who are interested in interacting with people fromdifferent backgrounds, are welcome to join. For more information, contact Prof. Sidney Langer (the club’s Faculty Adviser) at slanger@kean.edu.
