"Be a Man: Black Male Interaction in a Barbershop"
This paper analyzes black male interaction within an urban barbershop in the
northeast region of the U.S. The review of scholarly literature relates this
study to previous research on the nature of bragging, the use of slang, and
comforting as well as disclosure. Charles' study is ethnographic based on
participant observations and the analysis of the discourse of everyday talk.
The findings illustrate the uses of three types of discourse among the men:
bragging, disclosure, and comforting. Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
