Kean University offers both graduate and undergraduate programs in seven core disciplines that are essential to providing exceptional interdisciplinary training and services in autism spectrum disorders: Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, and Educational Administration. In addition, Kean University offers programs in School Counseling, School Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Bilingual Education, Recreational Therapy, and Health Services Administration. Kean University is uniquely positioned to develop and deliver high-quality, interdisciplinary autism education and services to educators, professionals and families.
The KARE Center’s interdisciplinary education program, located on the Kean University campus in Union, New Jersey, responds to the needs of classroom teachers and other school and community based professionals for current, evidence-based practices. It provides a solid foundation in effective intervention and management methods and examines new and emerging concepts and practices. The KARE Center’s support program offers innovative methods of delivering specialized training, information and support to individuals and families throughout their lifetime.
Founded in 1855, Kean University has grown to become New Jersey’s third largest institution of higher learning. Kean was granted university status in 1997. While maintaining its significant role in the training of teachers, Kean has become a comprehensive institution offering 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and two doctoral programs serving approximately 14,000 students. Across five undergraduate colleges and the Nathan Weiss Graduate College, Kean’s academic programs cover an exceptional range of disciplines. Kean University is fully accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and its specialized programs are individually accredited by 24 organizations.
Kean University has historically had a highly diverse student population and is located in a region that has become one of the fastest growing immigrant and multicultural populations in the nation. Sixty-seven percent of Kean’s students are the first generation in their family to go to college. Forty-seven percent of our undergraduates are minorities; 20% of undergraduates are African American and 20% are Hispanic.
