Evaluation and Assessment Kean Counseling Center has a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor who is available to provide a one-on-one individual evaluation and assessment. This is a comprehensive consultation and personalized treatment recommendations are provided to the student.
Individual Counseling Kean University students who are interested in individual counseling in the area of alcohol and other drug concerns are offered sessions through the Counseling Center. Treatment takes a brief motivational approach designed to increase a student’s reflective state concerning their alcohol and/or drug use. The approach emphasizes choices and personal responsibility. Treatment includes a once a week session and can be supplemented by outside support groups.
Early Intervention and Educational Programs Some students make high risk choices around alcohol and other drugs and may require intervention and educational programs. The programs are designed to meet the individual needs of students who have violated Kean University’s alcohol and other drug policies. These students can be referred by various offices at Kean University. They include the Office of Student Conduct, Residence Life, Athletics, and Student Life and Leadership. Additionally, students may refer themselves to our services. The educational programs are designed to meet individual needs of students who have made high risk choices around substances.
The components of the early intervention and educational programs are as follows:
If students are assessed for any of the above programs and their substance use requires a higher level of treatment than the Counseling Center can provide, students are given a referral to an outside treatment facility where they can also fulfill their mandate.
e-CHUG The electronic Check-Up to Go (e-Chug) is a brief, self-assessment that provides you with personalized feedback on your alcohol use. Resources will be made available within the Kean Counseling Center or community should you need assistance.
