The MSN/MPA degree is a dual degree program sponsored by the Department of Nursing and the Department of Public Administration. A total of 51 credits are required, 24 credits from nursing, 21 from public administration and 6 credits electives.

This educational preparation targets the nurse executive and is designed to blend clinical management, and business theory within an interdisciplinary framework. The transcultural focus of clinical management is strengthened by knowledge of public and business aspects of management. It is an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to management It offers an understanding and appreciation of the roles and contributions each discipline brings to the care delivery process.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University’s admission requirements, submit:

  • BSN - RNs with bachelor degrees in otherfields may be considered for admission withadditional course work based on portfolio assessment
  • RN Licensure
  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
  • Two letters of recommendation attesting to professional and academic competence
  • Departmental interview

NURSING RESEARCH CORE 6 credits

  • Two course to be taken with advisement from the graduate Programs in Public Administration , Psychology, Management Science, Instruction and Curriculum Administration, Counselor Education, Special Education, Sociology, Philosophy, Mathematics, and Interdisciplinary. Special arrangements may be made for elective courses Taken at other graduate nursing programs.
