The primary goal of the Master of Arts in Counselor Education, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling Option is to prepare professionally educated and trained counselors to work as Alcohol and Drug Abuse counselors in a variety of settings. Students in the option will be provided with: a common core of professional counseling competencies based on national standards; specialized studies in the field of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling; and, supervised experiences in alcohol and drug abuse counseling.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University's admission requirements:
- Official transcripts from every college or university attended
- Cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 3.0. Lower G.P.A. may be considered based on the strength of the overall application.
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
- Two letters of recommendation
- Departmental interview may be required
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- 48 credits
- Conditionally admitted; following successful completion of core courses, students participate in a selections session to advance to full admission.
- Practicum and internships
- Two semester advanced seminar
- Comprehensive examination
