OVERVIEW:
The Master of Arts in Instruction and Curriculum, Classroom Instruction Option leads to certification and a master's degree for liberal arts or science graduates seeking to become teachers in elementary, middle, or secondary schools (K-5, K-5/5-8 or K-12). Students who successfully complete Level I of their chosen track are eligible for Provisional Teaching Certification; they may then complete the remaining Levels II and III.
Application Deadlines: This program admits in the spring, summer, and fall.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University's admission requirements:
* Bachelor's degree with Liberal Arts or science major or Certificate of Eligibility
* Minimum GPA of 2.75 for graduates on or after September 1, 2004; minimum GPA of 2.50 for graduates prior to September 1, 2004.
* Passing score on the appropriate Praxis Test
* GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) score.
* Commitment to working with children
* Two letters of recommendation
* Departmental interview

* 45 credits; first 27-33 credits (depending on Track chosen) lead to certification and must be completed in a prescribed manner
* Culminating integrative seminar
* Comprehensive examination

Track D- World Languages: Spanish (teacher certification World Languages: Spanish K-12)
The World Languages K-12 Initial Certification program offers New Jersey State certification to teach Spanish and provides an opportunity for students to choose an academic area with a broad appeal and interest level while building the essential methodological skills to disseminate information about people in the Hispanic world. The combination of the World Languages component (Spanish) and the Education classes is appropriate for careers in education and would be useful for careers in government and other professions as well.

* Bachelor's degree with Spanish Major or Bachelor's degree and 30 credits in Spanish
* Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 from the graduating institution
* Spanish Praxis II exam with passing score
* GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
* Departmental interview and two letters of recommendation
* Writing sample to be done at interview
