PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Master of Arts in Instruction and Curriculum, Mathematics/Science/Computer Education Option is designed for the individual holding a baccalaureate degree and standard teaching certification who wishes to achieve increased understanding and skills in any combination of the areas indicated. It also provides opportunity to examine current trends and problems in these areas.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University's admission requirements:
- New Jersey Instructional Certificate
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
- Departmental interview may be required
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- 33 credits
- Two semester advanced seminar
- Comprehensive examination
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
SPECIALIZATION 18 credits
Select six of the following courses:
- IEL 5320 Computers in the School Curriculum I (or appropriate level) 3
- IEL 5321 Computers in the School Curriculum II 3
- IEL 5322 Computer Applications for the Classroom Teacher 3
- IEL 5323 Theory and Practice of Teaching Mathematics 3
- IEL 5324 Critical Issues in Mathematics Education 3
- IEL 5325 Diagnosis and Remediation in the Teaching of Mathematics 3
- IEL 5330 Theory and Practice of Teaching Science 3
- IEL 5331 Environmental Experiences in the Teaching of Science 3
- IEL 5323 World Wide Web Technologies for Educators 3
REQUIRED COURSES 3 credits
Select one of the following courses:
- IEL 5612 Advanced School Curriculum I 3
- IEL 5613 Development and Evaluation: Theory and Practice 3
- IEL 5614 Learning, Instruction, Evaluation and the Curriculum 3
ELECTIVE 6 credits
Student selects two courses in mathematics, science, computer science or an IEL course.
RESEARCH 6 credits
- IEL 5098 Advanced Seminar: Research in Educational Practices I 3
