PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Master of Arts in Reading Specialization, Basic Skills Option is designed to provide in-depth training in the basic skills areas of mathematics, writing, and reading. It is planned to meet the students' career interests for work in the elementary/secondary classroom or with college/adult populations. The curriculum focuses on the needs of classroom teachers who are responsible for increasing their students' basic skills. It enables the graduate student to develop a general understanding of basic skills and their interrelationship; to relate this understanding and knowledge to the acquisition of higher level cognitive skills.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University's admission requirements:
- Initial teaching certification (provisional or permanent)
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Departmental interview may be required
