The Department of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing Degree in Clinical Management with an emphasis in transcultural nursing concepts. Students entering the program pursue part-time or full-time study (3 to 9 credits per semester). The program can be completed in four academic semesters and one summer session. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for certification in Nursing Administration and Transcultural Nursing.
The purpose of this program is to prepare nurses with expertise in clinical management emphasizing system planning and protocols of care development which are responsive to culturally diverse health team and patient populations. It is this unique combination of transcultural nursing care and managerial skill which
will prepare the graduate of this program with the competence necessary to take a leadership role in the clinical arena. Twelve credits in transcultural clinical management theory are complemented by nine credits in clinical management practica. Six credits of nursing research are required and six credits of guided electives
are used to support the selected interests of the student.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University’s admission requirements:
- BSN - RNs with bachelor degrees in other fields may be considered for admission with additional course work based on portfolio assessment
- RN Licensure
- Two letters of recommendation attesting to professional and academic competence
- Departmental interview
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- 36 credits
- Planned sequence of coursework each semester with one summer session
- Five hours weekly clinical time associated with the two 2credit clinical courses
- 12.5 hours weekly clinical time associated with the final 5 credit clinical course

- Minimum B coursework in statistics, nursing research and theory.

Elective courses may be taken within the Department. These courses include Seminar in Transcultural Nursing, Summer
travel-learn programs in other countries, and Spirituality in Nursing.
With advisor guidance, electives may be taken from graduate programs/ courses in Public Administration (PA), Psychology (PSY), Management Science (MGS), Educational Leadership (EL), Counselor Education (CED), Special Education (SPED), Sociology (SOC), Philosophy (PHIL), Mathematics (MATH), and Interdisciplinary (ID).
Note: Special arrangements may be made for elective courses taken at other graduate nursing programs.
