PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Counselor Education program has been approved by the State to offer a 27 credit program leading to New Jersey State Certification in Substance Awareness Coordination. Students in this program will be prepared for the position of Substance Awareness Coordinator in a public school system.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University’s admission requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree and a valid New Jersey or out-of-state standard instructional certificate or certification as school psychologist, school social worker, school counselor, director of school counseling services or school nurse
OR
Master’s degree
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS - 27 credits
COUNSELING COURSES: 9 Credits
- CED 5910 Introduction to Counseling & Human Services 3 credits
- CED 5962 Group Process in Counseling 3 credits
- CED 5950 Principles and Procedures of Counseling 3 credits
REQUIRED COURSES: 15 Credits
- CED 5941 Secondary School Guidance and Counseling 3 credits
- CED 5501 Introduction to Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling 3 credits
- CED 5502 Coordinating Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Abuse Programs
and Services (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling in the
Schools)* 3 credits - CED 5503 Impact of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Abuse Across the
