The Department of Counselor Education is CACREP-accredited. It is a humanistic, multicultural, non-sexist graduate program designed to train Professional Counselors. Students and faculty focus on the development of increase self-awareness, professional and personal growth and continuous learning. Learning objectives include theoretical training, skills development and practical application through coursework and supervised practica/internships. The faculty provides preparation in the areas of individual, group and career counseling theories and techniques; professional orientation; social and cultural foundations; appraisal; research and evaluation; and human development.
Graduates are employed in settings including schools, mental health/social service agencies, colleges, government agencies, counseling centers and businesses. Other graduates are enrolled in doctorial programs.
