PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Master of Arts in Counselor Education, School Counseling Option, is CACREP and NCATE accredited. It is designed to provide education, training and state certification in School Counseling (Student Personnel Services). The program provides comprehensive training in both elementary and secondary school counseling, including supervised practicum and internships.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University's admission requirements:

  • Official transcripts from every college or university attended
  • Cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 3.0. Lower G.P.A. may be considered based on the strength of the overall application.
  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Departmental interview may be required

  • CED 5050 Appraisal and Assessment in Counseling 3 credits
  • CED 5952 Theories of Counseling 3 credits
  • CED 5963 Theory and Practice of Group Counseling 3 credits
  • CED 5975 Career Counseling and Development 3 credits

SOCIOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS (Specialized Courses): 6 Credits

  • CED 5941 Secondary School Guidance and Counseling 3 credits
  • CED 5915 Multicultural Counseling 3 credits

RESEARCH: 6 Credits

  • CED 5998/5999 Adv. Seminar in Counselor Education I & II 6 credits

PSYCHOLOGY: 6 Credits
