PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Master of Arts in Instruction and Curriculum, Teaching English as a Second Language Option, is designed to prepare teachers of English as a Second Language, grades kindergarten through 12, and adults. The program includes coursework in linguistics, culture, and methodology. It may be pursued on a full or part time basis. Students who do not possess an initial teaching certificate should contact the Program Coordinator or the Office of Graduate Admissions.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the University's admission requirements:
- · New Jersey Instructional Certificate
- · Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 from all colleges attended (lower GPA may be considered based on appropriate experience)
- · GRE (Graduate Record Exam) test scores
- · Two letters of recommendation
- · Departmental interview
- · Writing sample of approximately one hour to be done at interview
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- · 39 credits
- · One course (3 credits) in a foreign language at the undergraduate or graduate level
- · Two semester advanced seminar (Research Project)
- · Comprehensive examination
- · Passing score on appropriate test of oral and written English proficiency. Call (908) 737-4242 to schedule a test.
