PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Master of Arts in Reading Specialization, Adult Literacy Option is designed to provide advanced academic preparation for students planning to teach adults in business and industry, as well as in junior or community college settings. Graduates are capable of designing, implementing, and supervising training programs for adults in the workplace who have been identified by their employers or themselves as lacking in the basic skills of reading, speaking , and writing.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the University's admission requirements:

  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Departmental interview may be required

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • 33 credits
  • Research based thesis

  • CS 5600 Remediation in Basic Skills 3
  • CS 5481 Diagnostic-Prescriptive aching in Basic Skills 3
  • CS 5450 Curriculum Design for Adult Education Programs 3
  • CS 5460 Administration and Supervision of Reading Programs 3
  • CS 5495 Practicum in Reading and Study Skills Center 3

ELECTIVES 6 credits
