M.A. in Liberal Studies

 

Program Objectives

The MA in Liberal Studies continues the aim of a sound liberal arts education: to encourage students to think critically and perceptively; to write effectively; to communicate with clarity. More specifically, the program is designed to provide:

  1. An increased awareness of one's self and one's critical and creative possibilities.
  2. An analysis of the major ideas that have shaped the contemporary world.
  3. Through selected periods and significant issues, an assessment of some of the larger forces in the development of civilization.
  4. A deeper appreciation of the aesthetic through a study of selected works of the imagination.
