I
believe projects are the right approach to curriculum. Projects help
children connect to the real world. I plan projects that integrate
math, science, literacy, and social studies. Activities are planned
with "real" experiences. I believe children learn more when
activities are meaningful.
You
will observe that with the stream project many subject areas are
blended to create curriculum. Children used science to look for worm
habitat. Children used literacy skills to retell a worm
story and they also listened to the stories about insects. Their
math came into play when we took a walk and counted the bridges.
Children painted with water colors and dictated stories about water.
So I believe project approach is an exciting way to organize
curriculum.
I
consider parents as partners in the education of their children. I
value families¡¯ ideas and inputs and how they feel about their
children¡¯s experience. So my teaching philosophy inc
ludes working with families to support their children¡¯s learning.
I
believe my commitment to the profession will guide me in my
interactions with children and families. I will continue to grow and
learn and find new ways to promote successful learning.
