Create and Organize your Bibliographies with EndNote Web

Introduction to EndNote Web

The Kean University Library now has EndNote Web, a bibliography and reference citation manager, through the university's subscription to Web of Science (ISI Web of Knowledge / Thomson). You can import article citations from various research databases into EndNote Web. Then use EndNote Web to organize your citations and to create bibliographies, References, or Works Cited lists in your required citation styles (such as, APA or MLA).

Before using EndNote Web, you must first sign up for your own free account. There are separate steps for people working at an on-campus computer and people working at an off-campus computer. See the sign-up steps listed below.

According to EndNote Web (ISI Web of Knowledge / Thomson):

"In order to use EndNote Web away from your institution, you must first register and login from an IP authenticated workstation. This confirms that you are a valid user with your institution and initiates Roaming [off-campus] access for twelve months. After twelve months, you are required to login again from an IP authenticated workstation to re-establish your association with the institution."

Steps for signing up for EndNote Web when you are working at a computer on the main campus in Union or the East Campus in Hillside

When you want to access EndNote Web later on (from on campus or off campus), simply click the EndNote logo on the Kean library home page.

Cite While You Write Plug-in

Once you have signed up for your own free account, you can also download a free EndNote Web plug-in onto your personal computer or laptop, so that you can use the "EndNote Cite While You Write Plug-in" while working in Microsoft Word. The plug-in is available for Windows or Macintosh.

Simply login to your EndNote Web account on your personal computer or laptop. Then click the "Download Installers" link at the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions.

Firefox Extension

Once you have signed up for your own free account, you can also download a free EndNote Web toolbar for the Firefox browser on your personal computer or laptop. You would be able to use the EndNote Web toolbar in Firefox to save online references directly into your EndNote Web library. The Firefox Extension is available for Windows or Macintosh.

Simply login to your EndNote Web account on your personal computer or laptop. Then click the "Download Installers" link at the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions.
