17 women...Latinas como ningunas, came together in December of 1975, a time in history where a woman was preferred to be seen and not heard, and when she was heard, her cry fell on that of deaf ears. The 70's... an era of political turmoil and social unrest. At a small college in New Jersey, now known as Kean University, these women convened, to form an organization, more than a sorority, no less than a true sisterhood.
As the first Latin sorority to exist in the United States, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority is currently celebrating 25 years of Hermandad (Sisterhood), with Unity, Love, and Respect, the 3 principles that our organization was founded on.
Lambda Theta Alpha prides itself on being the first and largest Latin Sorority, but we do not rest idly on past accomplishments, but continue to pave the way by producing quality sisters, on an undergraduate, alumni, and graduate level. These sisters proudly wear the burgundy and grey, and uphold a sisterhood that was formed to be a support system for Latinas and all Women of color. The Universal Woman: a Lady of all shades, striving for success, to give back to her community by educating herself, educating others, and sharing with them the principles that are not just ours, but the basic principles of human prosperity.
