Biography: Mara Cohen is an
Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy in the College of Natural,
Applied, and Health Sciences at Kean University in Union, NJ.
She also maintains a private
practice in pediatric occupational therapy in Parsippany, New Jersey.
Credentials: Professor
Cohen received her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Sports
Studies at Douglass College of Rutgers University in 1996. She was in
the first graduating class of Seton Hall University's Occupational
Therapy program in 2000. In 2003, she was one of three students accepted
into the Ph.D. program in Occupational Therapy at New York University.
In the spring of 2005 she became a Ph.D. candidate. She continues to
work on her dissertation in the area of pediatric occupational therapy,
looking at the experiences of families during transition from early
intervention to special education services.
Previous Employment: After graduating
from Douglass College, Professor Cohen began working at a private school
for children with autism as a teaching assistant. While attending
graduate school full-time, she continued in this position on a part-time
basis. Following graduation, she began her career as an occupational
therapist at the school. Since that time, she has worked all over
northern New Jersey at a private rehabilitation clinic, a day camp for
children with disabilities, public school districts, private schools,
and in home care.
Professional Activities: Professor
Cohen is an active member in the American Occupational Therapy
Association (AOTA), the Doctoral Network of the American Occupational
Therapy Foundation (AOTF), the New Jersey Occupational Therapy
Association (NJOTA), and the Rockaway Township Occupational Therapy
Network.
