THE COOPERATIVE INFORMATION SYSTEMS PARADIGM
The paradigm for cooperative information systems (CISs) involves
large numbers of information systems (ISs) distributed over
large, complex computer/communication networks (e.g., Intranets,
the Internet, the World Wide Web). Such ISs will manage or have
access to large amounts of information and computing services
and will need to cooperate with each other. They will support
both individual and collaborative human work.
THE CONFERENCE
The Third IFCIS International Conference on Cooperative
Information Systems (CoopIS) is the premier event in Cooperative
Information Systems. It is sponsored by the International
Foundation on Cooperative Information Systems (IFCIS), and
replaces the erstwhile international workshops on
Interoperability in Multidatabase Systems (IMS) and the
conference series on Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS &
ICICIS).
Cooperative Information Systems - the area and the conference -
brings together scientists and ideas from artificial
intelligence, computer-supported cooperative work, databases,
distributed computing, and user interfaces.
Submitted papers should address cooperation and interoperability
among information systems. Specific topics related to the
theoretical and practical aspects of cooperative information
systems may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Advanced transaction models
- Agents for cooperative information management
- Business process modeling and reengineering
- Communication subsystems and infrastructure
- Digital libraries
- Distributed AI
- Distributed object management
- Electronic commerce
- Federated databases and multidatabases
- GIS and spatial databases
- Information and data modeling
- Information resource discovery
- Integration and interoperability
- Legacy data access and management
- Mediators, wrappers, negotation
- Metadata use and management
- Multiagent systems
- Multimedia information systems
- Mobile databases
- Semantic interoperability
- Workflow modeling and management
Papers should clearly indicate how they are related to and how the
results reported contribute to the theme of the conference.
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS - PAPERS AND PANELS
Original research and industrial papers are solicited. Papers
should not be longer than 5000 words. Industrial papers should
describe technical or key business issues in applying the
relevant technology, which should highlight aspects of
cooperation and interoperation. Submissions should be
unpublished and not under consideration by another conference or
journal. Panel proposals should address leading-edge research
issues in cooperative information systems.
The following items should be submitted:
- A cover page, to be submitted by email to the nearest
program chair (in ASCII) as follows:
- Title: title
- Authors: name[, name]
- Address: address
- Telephone: telephone
- Fax: fax
- E-mail: e-mail address
- Keywords: keyword[, keyword[, keyword]]
- Abstract: abstract (100-200 words)
- Six hard-copies of the manuscript, including the
cover page, to be sent to the same program chair. Authors are
encouraged to submit papers in the final conference format. We
will be using the style of the IEEE Computer Society Press.
Please see
http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm for details.
We now have a LaTeX style file for you to use. Its name is latex8.sty
(just click and, if necessary, use the save feature of your
browser to get a copy). There are three other accompanying LaTeX files
that you should also use along with the style file: (1) sample.tex
(a sample LaTeX source file that utilizes latex8.sty. Please
use this as a template for your paper); (2) latex8.bst
(the bibliographic style file); (3) latex8.bib
(an example BibTeX file). Again, you should download all four
files.
Proposals, requests or suggestions for panels should be sent to
the panel chair. We welcome suggestions for panels that would
make CoopIS'98 compelling to you and the CoopIS community.
