Major in Marketing
Q. How do I declare my major?
A. Fill out the form (available in the Management Department) and
have it signed by the Chair. You can declare as a Management major if
you have a 2.3 GPA and after you have taken at least 4 of the following
courses: ECO 1020, ECO 1021, MGS 2030, MGS 2110, MGS 2120, ACCT 2200,
MKT 3410. You can intend to become a Management major if you don't meet
these criteria yet.
Q. What is the capstone?
A. Please note that MGS 4110 Business Simulation will no longer be offered. Students who are missing the capstone should register for MGS 4999 Integrative Business Strategy.
Q. Can I use an ID (Interdisciplinary) class in place of a GE course?
A. Yes, provided it is listed in the “Approved GE Distribution Courses” section found in the bulletin. For example, ID 1400 can be used as a GE Science & Math course. This is only for students entering after 2002.
Q. Can I use Spanish I or another foreign language course for the humanities requirement?
A. Only if you take an additional semester as well.
Graduation
Q. What is the deadline for applying for May graduation? Where can I get the form?
A. Deadline is October. The One-Stop Center has the forms.
Q. Where do I get the graduation packet?
A. The registrar mails out the package either in January or May once you have 85 credits. If you have more than 85 credits and have not received the package, please contact the One Stop.
Q. What are the minimum grades for graduation?
A. Must have a 2.0 GPA. Grades of D or better are required for GE and elective courses except Composition where you need a C or better. Grades of C or better are required for business courses.
Q. If a student has completed all but 1 or 2 of the courses required to graduate by the end of the spring term, and plans to take those remaining courses during summer sessions, can the student apply to "walk," or be part of commencement activities in May?
A. The student should apply for August graduation and still "walk" in the May commencement exercises.
Transfer
Q. How many credits can I transfer?
A. You can transfer a maximum of 90 credits and no more than 24 credits in the major.
Q. If a student has printed her graduation/matriculation report and finds an entry showing only a total number of transfer credits - but the report does not show how these credits are distributed to specific categories (e.g., GE, humanities, major area, electives, etc.) How should she proceed?
A. The student should have her original guide sheet with the transfers marked on it and signed by the Transfer Coordinator. If she has lost the guide sheet, she should visit the coordinator (Andrea Rosa at CAS 217) and request a copy. The One Stop may also be able to print out a copy.
Special Issues
Q. Can I major in 2 Business disciplines?
A. No. You cannot get a double major in Business nor can you minor in a second business disciple.
Q. How do I obtain a Marketing Minor?
A. There is a form in the department that you can use as your guide sheet. It will have to be signed by the Chair before you graduate.
Q. If I repeat a class how do I raise my GPA?
A. You will need to fill out a form called the Petition for Repeat Grade Recalculation and submit it to the Registrar.
Marketing Minor
Q. Where do I sign up to have a minor in Marketing?
A. You sign up for your minor in the Department of Marketing Located at Willis Hall, Room 408.
Q. Who should I contact if I have questions about the Marketing minor?
A. Contact the Department of Marketing at 908-737-4190 to make an appointment with Dr. Lemel, the Chairperson of Marketing, or stop by during regular office hours.
Q. How long will it take to minor in Marketing?
A. The minor can be taken using your elective credits for your current major. It should not add any extra time or credits to fulfilling your degree requirements.
Q. When can I start taking courses for minor in Marketing?
A. You can start taking courses in any year of your degree. You must first take MKT 3410 which is a prerequisite for other MKT courses.
