State Requires New Praxis Core Test

Any student seeking to enter the College of Education is now required to pass the Praxis Core Test, officially called the Core Academic Skills For Educators Test. Eligible students are those who are taking Praxis for the first time after September 1, 2013. Anyone who passed all or part of the old Praxis I test is not required to pass Praxis Core.

The table below gives details about the Praxis Core Test.

Praxis Core Test Subject Test Code New Passing Score
Reading 5712 156
Writing 5722 162
Mathematics 5732 150

The Praxis Core test can only be taken at certain times. These are available at the ETS website (www.ets.org). While the subjects of Reading, Writing and Mathematics are the same as were on the old Praxis I Test that has been replaced, the two tests are quite different so the passing scores on one cannot be compared to the other.

Students who partially passed the old Praxis I test which has been repalced cannot mix in parts from Praxis Core.
