These criteria must be met by new applicants for a Kean
NSF CS Scholarship as well as by those students whose scholarship
is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United
States.
• Be a full time student.
• Be enrolled in or accepted to Kean University
CS academic program:
Computer Science:
BS is Computer Science
BS in Computer Science – Information Systems
• Demonstrate academic talent or potential.
• Demonstrate a financial need.
Scholarship Application Requirements
These criteria must be met by those students who apply for
a new Kean NSF Scholarship. Successful applicants must demonstrate
academic talent, commitment and motivation, time management
and communication skills. Students are required to:
o Explain your academic and career plans;
o Provide your reasons for majoring in Computer Science
at Kean;
o Explain what sets you apart from other applicants for
the scholarship;
• Have the results of completed Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at CCSU Office of Financial
Aid.
• Provide up-to-date (unofficial) transcripts.
• Provide two letters
of recommendation from current and/or past instructors.
At least one letter should be from a COmputer Science Professor.
Preferably, the letters should be enclosed with the application,
each in a separate envelope that has been sealed and signed
by the recommender.
• For students currently enrolled at Kean:
o Have an overall GPA of 2.5 (3.0 preferred);
o Be on track to graduate in four years from your initial
enrollment at Kean University;
o Be at least four semesters away from graduation at the
time of acceptance to the program, according to Kean University
degree evaluation report.
• For transfer students:
o Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all transfer courses accepted
for credit towards the requirements of the Kean University
Computer Science major program;
o Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in all transfer courses accepted
for credit outside the requirements of the Kean University
CS major program.
Scholarship Renewal Requirements
These criteria must be met by students whose scholarship
is being renewed for the subsequent semester. Students must:
• Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0;
• Meet the requirements of the chosen degree program:
o Be on track to graduate in the appropriate timeframe after
enrollment in the program;
o Take at least one course in the major discipline every
semester;
• Participate in all activities required by the program;
• Meet all scholarship eligibility criteria (see above).
