Chairperson

Dr. Laury is the chairperson of the Public Administration department. He has been in that position since fall 2005.  Prior to being chair, Dr. Laury served as the director of the MPA Program and created the One Stop Service Center.

Dr. Craig Donovan (x74307, W311H, cpdonova@kean.edu, Website)
Undergraduate Coordinator and 5-Year BA/MPA  Honors Coordinator

 

Dr. Donovan is the director of the MPA Program and he also runs the 5-Year BA/MPA Honors program. For over 15 years Dr. Donovan has served as a college professor, an officer for state and county government, and an advisor & consultant on public productivity, urban/economic development and organizational behavior in California, Oregon, Washington D.C. And throughout New Jersey. Prior to coming to New Jersey in 1994, Dr. Donovan was teaching at the University of Washington where he earned his dual doctorate in both Business Administration and Public Affairs. He earned a M.A. Degree from San Francisco State University and his Baccalaureate degrees were earned at the University of California at Irvine. Author of numerous papers and books, Dr. Donovan was on the executive council for both New Jersey and Northern New Jersey Chapters of the American Society for Public Administration, for which he also served as the national council representatives for the states of New York and New Jersey. He served on the Governor's Blue Ribbon Committee on Higher Education and was the former Vice President for Policy at the Public Policy Center of New Jersey.

Research Interests: Working on a number of projects such as creation of an educational experience for newly elected county officials and constitutional officers in New Jersey and is part of a national study of how the best and the brightest can be recruited into public service. He is also developing the first national public television series focusing on examples of good government from around the nation and supports the work to establish a national academy for public service.

Coordinator MPA Health Services Administration

Dr. Ault is the coordinator of the Health Services Administration option in the MPA program.

Dr. Patricia Moore (x74314, W311K, pmoore@kean.edu, Website)
MPA Program Director and MPA Non-Profit Management Coordinator

Dr. Moore is the coordinator of the Non-Profit Management option in the MPA program. She also is the Coordinator for PA in Undergraduate studies. In addition, Dr. Moore is in charge of the Faith-Based Grants. She has a Ph.D. from Rutgers University, specializing in Public Budgeting and Financial Management. Dr. Moore is also a graduate of Shortwood Teachers College in Kingston, Jamaica, where she specialized in Secondary Education. Dr. Moore has 11 years of diversified administrative and technical experience working with school districts, municipalities, counties and private non-profit organizations. She has worked at the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. Dr. Moore teaches both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Her research interests include resource allocation and control both in government and non- profit organizations.

Research Interests: Resource allocation in public schools, budgeting formula allocation, and the development of nonprofit organizations Dr. Moore’s most recent research is an empirical analysis of school budget election results in New Jersey.
 

Dr. Jon Erickson (x74310, W311L, jerickso@kean.edu, ericksonjk@yahoo.com)
Coordinator MPA Environment Management

 

Dr. Erickson is the coordinator of the Environmental Management option in the MPA program.  His previous work include Department Chairperson from Fall 2003-Fall 2005 and Director of the MPA program. He has his BA and Masters in Urban Planning from the University of Oregon and a PhD in Planning and Policy Development at Rutgers. He has held teaching positions at the University of Texas at Arlington, Portland State University, NYU, Baruch College and Kean University.

Dr. Susan Lederman (x74311, W311F, slederma@kean.edu) 
 

Dr. Lederman has been on the faculty at the University since 1977.  Dr. Lederman holds an B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She was the founding Executive Director of the Gateway Institute for Regional Development and has served as Director of Kean's Master of Public Administration Program. She previously served as Commissioner for the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. She also was the former president of the League of Women Voters of the United States. She currently serves for the Executive Committee of New Jersey Future, and on the governing board of the Regional Planning Association. In 2006, Governor Corzine nominated Dr. Lederman to serve on the Judicial Advisory Panel. The Panel assists the Governor in evaluating candidates for the New Jersey Superior Court.
