The New Jersey Center for the Advancement of School Counseling was established in 2007 (through a 3 year grant from the New Jersey Department of Education). The Center, through its partners: Kean University’s Counselor Education Department, the New Jersey School Counselor Association, and the NJDOE provides leadership to school counseling and counselor education programs in helping reinvent how school counseling is conducted in New Jersey.
The Center's mission is “to develop statewide systemic reform in school guidance and counseling based on the implementation of comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs that are focused on promoting life and career development and student achievement through partnerships between state government agencies, state school counseling associations, and institutions of higher education” (NJDOE, 2007).
Although funding ends on September 30, 2010 the Center will remain in operation and will continue to seek additional funding and formal partnerships with potential sponsors.
