In order to meet the varying eating habits and needs of our diverse student body, Gourmet Dining and Kean
University have developed a wide range of flexible meal plans to suit your campus life-style. Choosing any one of the plans from the many options we offer, in an all-you-care-to-eat format, gives you a terrific value.
 
We want you to be happy and healthy while enjoying a variety of delicious and nourishing food during
your time in college. The Residence Hall Dining facility offers a wide variety of good, nutritious foods from fresh salads and fruits to delicious and wholesome pastries, grilled entrees, pastas and more in a warm, courteous and clean
environment.
 
To access your meal plan with the fastest service, don’t leave home without your Cougar ID card.  Feel free to have as many servings as you want as long as you stay in the Residence Hall dining room. The Residence Dining Hall is the only place you can use your meal plan, while your Cougar Dollars and Flex dollars can be used at any of the food service locations. So, enjoy your favorite meal or treat with just the swipe of your card, any time!
 
Freshmen Meal Plans
Freshman residents living in the New Freshman Residence Hall, Whiteman Hall, Dougall Hall or Bartlett Hall will be assigned the default meal plan K-100 within 24 hours after room assignment.  Each Freshman Meal Plan includes two guest meals per month. So bring a friend and share a scrumptious meal before, between or after class.  At the end of
every month, any unused guest meals will be forfeited.
 
Students may change their meal plan selection or assignment through the third week of the semester ONLY (first 21 days).  Changes to assigned meal plans can be made on KeanWISE by selecting “Change My Meal Plan” on the “Meal Plan Options” menu.  Freshman changing their meal plan assignment may choose only from one of the four freshman meal plans.  The online meal plan change process for the fall semester is available  from July 13, 2009 through September 25, 2009.  The online meal plan process for the spring is available for January 1, 2010 through February 12, 2010.
 
 
K-100 $1,432/semester

Continuous, unlimited access & returns in the Residence Dining Hall with 100 cougar dollars and 2 guest meals per month.  Enter the Residence Dining hall anytime, as many times as you like during the the hours of operation. Cougar Dollars may be used for food purchases at any dining venue on campus (as a declining balance debit card).
 

Continuous, unlimited access & returns in the Residence Dining Hall with 200 cougar dollars and 2 guest meals per month.  Enter the Residence Dining hall anytime, as many times as you like during the the hours of operation. Cougar Dollars may be used for food purchases at any dining venue on campus (as a declining balance debit card).

K-300 $1,632/semester

Continuous, unlimited access & returns in the Residence Dining Hall with 300 cougar dollars and 2 guest meals per month.  Enter the Residence Dining hall anytime, as many times as you like during the the hours of operation. Cougar Dollars may be used for food purchases at any dining venue on campus (as a declining balance debit card).

K-400 $1,732/semester

Continuous, unlimited access & returns in the Residence Dining Hall with 400 cougar dollars and 2 guest meals per month.  Enter the Residence Dining hall anytime, as many times as you like during the the hours of operation. Cougar Dollars may be used for food purchases at any dining venue on campus (as a declining balance debit card).

Upper-Class Meal Plans and Returning Freshman

Upper-Class students and
Returning Freshman living in the New Upper-Class Residence Hall, Sozio Hall, Rogers Hall Burch Hall and Bartlett will be assigned the default meal plan KB-96 within 24 hours after room assignment. 
 
Students may change their meal plan selection or assignment through the third week of the semester ONLY (first 21 days).  Changes to assigned meal plans can be made on KeanWISE by selecting “Change My Meal Plan” on the “Meal Plan Options” menu.  Freshman changing their meal plan assignment may choose only from one of the four freshman meal plans.  The online meal plan change process for the fall semester is available  from July 31, 2009 through September 25, 2009.  The online meal plan process for the spring is available for January 1, 2010 through February 12, 2010.
 
Note: Resident students who are assigned the block plan during the first three weeks (21 days) of the semester will incur the full cost of the block meal plan.  Resident students assigned the block meal plan after the first three weeks (21 days) will incur a prorated charge based on the date of the assignment.

This plan allows a maximum of 96 meals throughout the semester and 200 Cougar dollars. This plan is designed for students who plan to eat a minimal number of meals in the dining hall and still have the flexibility of grabbing a quick snack or meal at other campus food service locations.

This plan allows a maximum of 80 meals throughout the semester and 300 Cougar dollars. Because there are no maximum or minimum meals per week, this block plan allows you the flexibility, variety and most of all value to meet your own personal dining needs.

 
Additional Information

GUEST MEALS
Each Freshmen Meal Plan also includes 2 guest meals per month. So, bring a friend and share a scrumptious meal before, between or after class. At the end of every month any unused guest meals will be forfeited.

COUGAR DOLLARS
Cougar Dollars give you the freedom to purchase beverages, snacks or meals anytime from the University Center Cafeteria, the Cougar’s Den, and both the University Center and Center for Academic Success Starbucks. Any plan may be enhanced with Flex Dollars for those who expect to want more meals when the Downs Hall dining room is closed, for late night snacking, or heavy use of the Starbucks locations. Students may add Flex Dollars to a plan at any time during the semester. While unused Cougar Dollars from the Fall semester are carried over into the Spring semester, keep in mind that all remaining Cougar Dollars at the end of the Spring semester will be forfeited and no credits or refunds will be provided.

PROTECT YOUR COUGAR ID CARD
Each student is responsible to protect the security of his/her card. Cougar ID cards are nontransferable; students may not “lend out” their cards to others. Cards that are used by someone other than the cardholder will be confiscated; and disciplinary action may be taken. Lost cards should be immediately reported to the Cougar ID Office located in the University Center, first floor.

CREDITS
If you have the Block Plan, make sure to eat your maximum number of meals before the end of the semester. While unused Cougar Dollars from the Fall semester are carried over into the Spring semester, keep in mind that all remaining Cougar Dollars at the end of the Spring semester will be forfeited and no credits or refunds will be provided.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Students who have purchased a meal plan and withdraw from Kean University or terminate their housing contracts their meal plans will be cancelled. The Meal Plan refund will be based on the date of cancellation and number of meals used at the time of cancellation.

Prior to the third week in the semester, a student who cancels their housing or withdraws from the University will receive a meal plan refund based on the number of meals or Cougar Dollars used.

After the third week in the semester, a student who cancels their housing or withdraws from the University will receive a refund calculated on a percentage basis (equivalent to the Residence Life cancellation policy) or the student will receive a refund based on the number of meals/Cougar Dollars used, whichever is higher.



FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Can a commuter purchase a meal plan?
A. Yes, commuter students can purchase a meal plan.

Q. Can I take food out of the Residence Dining Hall Facility?
A. No. All food served in the Residence Dining Hall must be consumed or disposed of in the Residence Dining Hall Facility. Exceptions to this policy are: one ice cream cone or one hot or cold beverage when leaving the facility.
 
Q. How do you know what is on the menu?
A. Printed copies of the Newsletter are available each week at the checker’s station in the dining areas or at http://www.gourmetdiningllc.com/campus/kean/index.php.
 
Q.What should I do if I lose my Kean ID?
A. If you lose your Kean ID, students must go to the Cougar ID Card Office located in the University Center. Tel: 908-737-5157.
 
Q. If I am sick, can I send my friend to get me a meal?
A. Yes. A Sick Tray Request Form must be obtained by your friend through the residence hall staff.
