Freshmen Meal Plans

HOW IT WORKS

Freshman residents living in Whiteman Hall, Dougall Hall, Bartlett Hall or the New Freshman Residence Hall will be assigned the default meal plan K-Unlimited Option 1 within 24 hours after room assignment.

Freshman meal plans consist of continuous unlimited dining in the new residence hall dining facilities. Designed to provide more than enough meals and food for the typical college student, these plans offer the most opportunities to treat you to any of the offerings provided with unlimited helpings. Eat as many times as you would like throughout the day. The various options provide additional Cougar Dollars for flexibility in the University Center Cafeteria and various eateries throughout campus.

In addition, each Freshmen Meal Plan includes 2 guest meals per month. So bring a friend and share a scrumptious meal before, between or after class. At the end of every month, any unused guest meals will be forfeited.

Meal Plan Cost

K- Unlimited   Option 1     $1,660/per semester   100 Cougar Dollars

K- Unlimited   Option 2      $1,760/per semester   200 Cougar Dollars

UPPERCLASS RETURNING FRESHMAN MEAL PLANS

Upper-Class students and Returning Freshman living in Sozio Hall, Rogers Hall, Burch Hall, Bartlett Hall or the New Upper-class Residence Hall will be assigned the default meal plan KB-96 within 24 hours after room assignment.

The Upper-class student meal plans are designed for students who plan to eat a minimal number of meals in the new residence hall dining facility and still have the flexibility of grabbing a quick snack or meal at other campus food service locations. Because there are no maximum or minimum meals per week, this block plan allows you the flexibility, variety and most of all value to meet your own personal dining needs.

KB-80        $1,162/per semester 300 Cougar Dollars

Resident students who are assigned the block plan during the first three weeks (21 days) of the semester will incur the full cost of the Block meal plan.  Resident students assigned the block meal plan after the first three weeks (21 days) will incur a prorated charge based on the date of the assignment.

Changing Your Meal Plan

Students may change their meal plan selection or assignment through the third week of the semester ONLY (first 21 days).  Changes to assigned meal plans can be made on KeanWISE by selecting “Change My Meal Plan” on the “Meal Plan Options” menu.  Upper-classmen may choose to select either the KB-96 or KB-80 meal plan.  Upper-classmen may also choose to upgrade to one of the unlimited K-Unlimited plans.  Students must pay the price difference at the Student Accounting Office.  The online meal plan change process for the fall semester is available from July 15, 2014 through September 23, 2014.

FLEX PLAN

For all other members of the Kean community, the University offers a Flex Plan that allows you the convenience of not having to carry cash for dining or purchases on campus. Spend your Flex dollars at any campus food service location, the Marketplace, the campus bookstore, and vending machines. It’s an easy and convenient system which allows you to deposit a dollar amount onto your Cougar ID card and use it as a debit card.

Unlike the meal plans, which are used on a week-by-week or semester basis, Flex dollars are valid throughout the academic year and can be purchased independently or to supplement the mandatory meal plan. Flex dollars are rolled over from semester-to-semester and any unused Flex dollars are reimbursed at the end of the spring semester.

A minimum of $50 is required to open a Flex plan and Flex dollars can be added to your account at any time.

Students receiving financial aid can use excess financial aid funds or student loans to purchase a Flex Plan.  In the event the financial aid package is adjusted, students are responsible for any charges incurred on the Flex Plan.

Flex plan applications can be printed by selecting the appropriate student, faculty or staff menu on KeanWISE.  The completed application should be mailed to the Office of Student Accounting with the appropriate payment or funding information.  Applications can also be obtained at the Office of Student Accounting.
