Lenape Park Bio-Blitz:
Herps

Herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians, and so these animals are affectionately known as "herps" by students of the group. Joe Filo, a naturalist at the Trailside Nature and Science Center, led three team members, as well as three recruits from the general public, on a search for these often-secretive organisms. In all, they identified 10 species, with red-backed salamanders bring the most commonly encountered. This somewhat low number of species may have been the result of an unusually dry spring.
