Promoting Renewable Energy Use at Home: Sustainability Science Workshops during ‘Earth Week 2017’
“High school teachers: Register Now!”
“High school students: Apply Now!”

The renewable energy workshop hosted by the School of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (SESS) will provide a unique opportunity for participants to learn about basics, application, and impacts of renewable energy through hands-on activities and software tools.

Four workshops will be provided:

  • Solar panel workshop: participants will learn about basic PV cell concepts, measurement, and application at homes.
  • Fuel cell workshop: participants will learn about fundamentals of fuel cells and set up an experimental kit which converts solar energy to electricity using a solar panel and fuel cells.
  • Home energy use workshop: participants will learn about energy efficiency concepts and measure the energy consumption used in houses, which are utilizing renewable energy.
  • Life cycle assessment (LCA): participants will learn about LCA concepts, components, and standards. They will be taught how to use a LCA software tool to estimate environmental impacts of renewable energy at homes.

All workshops and activities will be offered during the week of the Earth Day 2017, in order to celebrate the Earth Day and promote sustainability study in high schools.
