When Take the Praxis exam required for your license As Soon As Possible. You are eligible to take the tests as soon as you have enough credits to be considered a senior (96 credits). Post-Baccalaureate and graduate-level students can take these tests any time. Please do not leave the test to the last minute!! What Be sure that you take the correct test! N-8 certification: (Elementary and Early Childhood majors), you are required to take Elementary Education: Content Knowledge, test code 10014. (See attached for test codes for each license).
Passing scores on Praxis tests are required in New Jersey for all licenses with the exception of Teacher of the Handicapped, Teacher of the Deaf, English as a Second Language (ESL), and P-3 licenses.
How You can pick up a Praxis Registration Bulletin at the Dean’s Office, N443, or register on line at www.teachingandlearning.org.
Special Circumstances &emdash; Extra Time and Accommodations
- If your first language is NOT English, you can apply for extra time. Please come into the Dean’s Office for the forms. (See Praxis Bulletin, Section 2 for details).
- If you have a documented learning or physical disability and need special accommodations, you may apply for extra time and different accommodations. (See Praxis Bulletin, Section 2 for details).
Be Prepared If you do not have passing scores on the Praxis, you will not receive your license to teach. What Else? Available help:

- Practice, Read : Buy Barron’s Book, ETS, other commercial materials. Read the NY Times Science section. Review your class notes.
- Review and download Tests at a Glance information, including sample questions, from the Teaching and Learning Web site at www.teachingandlearning.org. Tests at a Glance booklets can be ordered from ETS by calling 609-771-7395.
OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE
When you fill out the information on the test, you MUST fill in the bubbles with your CORRECT SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. If you do not give your social security number or give the wrong social security number on the Praxis, you will not receive your license from the State of New Jersey.
You MUST indicate as a Score Recipient the New Jersey Department of Education Code: 7666 and Kean University Code: RA2517. If the state does not receive your scores, you will not be certified.
