Welcome to Symphytos!

This website is devoted to the study of sawflies, wood wasps and horntails (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) in all aspects - ecology, systematics, behavior, pest management, etc. It is a resource not only for experienced researchers, but for students, amateurs and the general public as well. New material will be added on a regular basis; please check back frequently.

Contributions to Symphytos are welcome and much appreciated. Consult Instructions to Contributors.

The original Symphytos newsletter (see History and Archives) was edited by David Smith and Henri Goulet and was unique and vital communication link for the sawfly community during the 1980's. We dedicate this website to Dave and Henri, and we will do our best to make the new Symphytos worthy of the tradition they began.

We hope that you find our efforts useful and stimulating. And if our site increases awareness of these fascinating yet woefully understudied insects, all the better.

Regards - Chip & Alexey
