PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Substitute teachers who are qualified, trained and can continue the learning process in the absence of the students’ regular classroom teacher are in great demand throughout the State of New Jersey. This seminar will give participants the skills and confidence needed to be effective in the classroom. The seminar will guide participants in gaining classroom management skills, as well as in learning effective teaching strategies to keep students focused. Additionally, participants will complete most of the necessary documentation required for county substitute certification and will learn about options in pursuing full-time teacher certification.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

Members of the general public who have a desire to substitute teach in their local schools, novices who do not have any type of education background or prior teaching experience, and those who have already substitute taught and are looking to gain additional classroom skills are all encouraged to attend the seminar.

• County Substitute Certification Requirements
  • Application paperwork completed
  • Notarization of paperwork completed on-site
  • Certification process discussed.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN COUNTY SUBSTITUTE CERTIFICATION

• Minimum of 60 college credits in any type of program
• Clean criminal background history (No felonies)
• Evidence of a negative Mantoux (TB) test or chest x-ray

SEMINAR FEE

• $175 - Includes seminar cost, handbook, materials, and notarization of paperwork
• Fee is due at time of registration
• Registration must be submitted one week prior to seminar.

The following additional fees will also be required to obtain county substitute certification:

• $75 - County Substitute Certification Fee
• $78 - Criminal History Background Check Fee

These additional fees must be paid upon presentation of your substitute application paperwork to your local school district.
