Dear Student:

This letter is to remind you that all undergraduate education students, including transfers, must seek admission into a teacher preparation program (see list on back). Being admitted to Kean University does not guarantee admission to teacher education. In order to be admitted as a teacher education candidate you must:

1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.

2. Have passed English Composition (ENG 1020 or equivalent) with a grade of "C" or better. (A grade of "B-" is required for Elementary and Secondary Education majors.)

3. Have passed Speech Communication (COMM 1400 or equivalent) with a grade of "C" or better. (A grade of "B-" is required for Elementary and Secondary Education majors.)

4. Have passed a college-level math course with a grade of "C" or better. (A grade of "B-" is required for Elementary and Secondary majors.)

5. Have passed an Introductory (Sophomore) Field course (CDD 2251, EC 2900, FA 2900, IEL 2800 or 2801, MUS 2900, PED 2800, SPED 1220 or 1250, or equivalent) with a grade of "C" or better. (A grade of "B-" is required for Elementary and Secondary Majors.)

6. Have passed a speech and hearing screening (administered in the Child Study Institute).

7. File an application for admission with the department.*

8. Have taken the Academic Profile Test (for Early Childhood and Elementary Education majors only). (Information on the Academic Profile can be obtained in T-107 or by calling the Dean’s office at 908-737-3750.)

*Not applicable for post-baccalaureate teacher certification candidates. Teacher Education majors who already hold a B.A. degree are fully admitted.
