American children who live abroad with parents employed by multinational corporations or parents employed as Foreign Service diplomats, non-government organizations ( NGOs) officers, or military personnel, learn early that the world is a place where international events often touch their lives in profound ways.  These children may face threats of terrorism, evacuations, war, demonstrations, kidnappings, or natural disasters and must cope with stressors starting at a very early age (www.state.gov/m/a/os).

Military and Violence Against Women, Family Violence Prevention Fund provides facts and resources to assist violence against women in military families (www.endabuse.org/resources/facts/Military.pdf).

U.S. Dept. of State, Office of Overseas Schools offers trauma information pamphlets and links for talking to youth residing abroad and touched by war and crisis (http://www.state.gov/m/dghr/flo/c8894.htm).

Committee for Children, International Programs offers culturally appropriate  programs for children and educators worldwide about appropriate touch, violence prevention, and bullying prevention.  Multilingual resources are available (www.cfchildren.org/support).
