Faith-Based Sites

Faith-based sites may be helpful for students enrolled in faith-based schools, academic programs, and after-school programs as well as for those students seeking a strong religious or spiritual foundation to cope with today’s stressful times.

 

Interfaith Sexual Trauma Institute focuses on preventing sexual abuse and exploitation by religious leaders and helping professionals through research, education, and healing (www.csbsju.edu/isti).

 

CEASE (Clergy and Educator Abuse Survivors Empowered!) suggests 13 options to terminate romantic relationships for youths and clients involved with helping professionals.  Some options include to report the relationship, seek legal recourse, confront, or seek counseling (http://www.advocateweb.org/hope/itsneverok/options.asp).

 

GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) works to make schools safe and affirming places with information about gay adolescents in Catholic schools (http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/educator/library/record/1728.html). 

 

Advocate Web helps to overcome exploitation by clergy, educators, youth ministers, coaches, and medical/mental health professionals, among others (www.advocateweb.org).

 

Stories for a Culture of Peace is a multilingual and international collection of stories for children and youth in schools, faith-based groups, and youth groups to talk with children about the issues of war and peace.  A discussion forum enables readers to communicate with others about the stories and general issues of a culture of peace (http://www.martinauer.net/KINDER/krieg-us/index.htm).
