Kean offers instruction and curriculum programs specifically designed to prepare teachers to work in diverse settings.
The bilingual/bicultural master's degree and certification programs prepare certified teachers to work in bilingual settings. Graduates gain a foundation in language, literacy and teaching methodologies that will assist them to work with diverse learners from various educational, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
The teaching English as a second language (ESL) degree and certification programs are specifically designed for those who want to teach ESL classes. Students in those programs learn about language acquisition, linguistics, and methods of teaching ESL and EFL (English as a foreign language.)
Kean also offers an alternate route program for teaching English as a second language that enables candidates to be employed as ESL teachers while they are completing their training in the subject matter of ESL.
