This year's conference will be hosted through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. Each executive board member will be enrolled in a Blackboard course entitled "SGLT20: Student Group Leadership Training 2020”. Conference Goals
The goals for the Student Group Leadership Conference are:
- To provide newly elected student leaders with a common comprehensive foundation of leadership training;
- To provide an opportunity for student leaders to engage with other student leaders, staff and faculty in a cohesive learning environment;
- To provide an opportunity for student leaders to learn critical skills as leaders and advocates for their organizations;
- To give student leaders the tools to build, strong, responsible, goal-focused organizations;
- To show leaders how to lead an organization with insight, effectiveness and integrity.
The ultimate goal of the Student Group Leadership Conference is to provide student group leaders with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully lead and strengthen both their organizations and memberships for the betterment of the Kean University student community.
Conference Assignments
Please refer to the list below to determine which group your organization has been assigned to attend the conference as a part of. If you are a member of multiple groups and assigned to attend multiple dates, you only need to select one day to attend.

Conference Registration
Registration for the 2020 Student Group Leadership Conference on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 is now open! The conference is required for all presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, secretaries, public relations directors and new member educators of all non-funded, funded, governmental and Greek letter organizations. Student group leaders were only required to attend one day of the conference (or the equivalent number of student group workshops throughout multiple days).
Student Group Training Requirement
To fulfill the 2020-2021 student group training requirement, each student group executive board member must obtain seven (7) workshop credits with the following breakdown:
- 3 Organizational Development Workshop Credits
- 2 Group Fundamentals Workshop Credits
- 1 Leader Development Workshop Credit
- 1 Elective Workshop Credit (Any Workshop Category)
Group Fundamentals Group fundamental workshops are designed to provide essential and technical information related to running a recognized Kean University student group or organization or hosting a student group activity or event. |
Organizational Development Organizational development workshops are designed to develop and enhance the functioning of the student group as a team or their events, activities and programs. |
Leader Development Leader development workshops are designed to develop and enhance a student’s leadership abilities or promote personal wellness. |
Professional Development Professional development workshops are designed to provide the student leader with information that will help the student articulate the experiences gained through their various student leadership roles or help develop the leader’s skills and abilities for the professional/career world. |
Elective Workshop Fulfillment of this item is met when a student attends any group fundamentals, professional development, leader development, or organizational development workshop outside of the workshop category requirements. |
