A Lecturer is a twelve-month, full-time employee who teaches 39 credits per year and provides student and learning support services during the assigned periods. The Lecturer holds a strong commitment to teaching; maintains office and advising hours for students; actively participates in the university community; and does related work as required. This is a non-tenure track position that may be renewed on an annual basis. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations. All lecturers may be required to teach General Education courses. Positions are effective for the fall 2019 semester.

Mathematics – to teach mathematics courses at the undergraduate level at both the Union and Ocean campuses. Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Doctorate degree is preferred.

Computer Science - to teach undergraduate courses in programming and upper level elective courses such as robotics, web design and programming, cybersecurity, networking, mobile applications and/or others based on area of expertise. Candidate will join an established program which incorporates undergraduate research opportunities and will mentor undergraduate research students. Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Technology Education or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. School of Criminal Justice and Public Administration
Criminal Justice - to teach undergraduate classes in Criminal Justice and a variety of related subject matter. Courses will be taught online and at Kean Skylands in Jefferson, NJ. Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Preference will be given to candidates with online teaching experience.

Healthcare Administration - to teach courses in Public Administration and oversee the Masters in Public Administration (MPA) concentration in Healthcare Administration including student support services and internship supervision. Specific duties include teaching and developing and updating undergraduate and graduate Healthcare Administration courses in Public Administration including Health Care Administration, Law/Policy, Marketing and degree capstone. Writing Studies – to oversee the B.A. English: Writing Option and to teach and develop writing courses for the writing major. Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Candidate should have evidence of teaching excellence in various writing courses. Preferred qualifications include: a Doctorate degree in Composition and Rhetoric; a minimum of three years of teaching undergraduate writing courses in a college environment; and experience in portfolio and writing assessment. Areas of specialty include Writing, Composition and Rhetoric, Literacy Studies, Cultural Rhetorics and/or Digital Writing/Media.

ESL (English as a Second Language) Program – to teach and develop a variety of intermediate to advanced ESL reading/writing courses. Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics/TESOL or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Candidate should have evidence of teaching excellence in ESL reading/writing courses. Preferred qualifications include: a Doctorate degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or a related field; a minimum of three years of teaching ESL reading/writing in a college environment; experience teaching or study abroad; and experience in portfolios, assessment and use of technology in the classroom, such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard or Canvas). The School of General Studies provides students with broad preparations for their majors and for life’s social and intellectual challenges. The skills developed and the knowledge acquired through general education coursework will support achievement in the major and success in endeavors beyond graduation.
Mathematics - specific duties include teaching courses in Developmental Math (Basic Algebra) and first year level General Education Math courses such as Statistics, Foundations of Math and Problem Solving. Master’s degree in math and/or math education and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.

Research and Technology/General Studies – to teach an intermediate course that introduces students to the research process in the sciences, education and other areas, with an emphasis on the use of technology and information literacy. The successful candidate will also teach first-year and transfer transition courses and serve as a faculty advisor to incoming and first-year students. In this course, students learn about university programs and services and also develop academic skills to function successfully in a university setting. The Lecturer will also provide academic advisement, with primary responsibility for first year students and work with other faculty and administrators in the School of General Studies, and throughout the university, to develop and implement advisement strategies. Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Professional experience in advising and supporting students in higher education settings is preferred.

Literacy – to teach Developmental Reading Courses and Language Arts Reading, K-12. Health – to teach core courses for the B.S. in Community Education program. Strong communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with practicum sites is essential. The Lecturer is expected to serve as faculty field liaison by conducting agency/organization in-person site visits and providing practice related advisement to student interns.
