ORSP is hosting 10 Zoom workshop sessions during the fall semester. Each workshop topic will be offered on Monday during college hour. Sessions will be 40 minutes with time for Q&A and interaction among session participants.

Tired of Email Blasts? Get Personalized Funding Alerts using Pivot
Review of how to perform basic and advanced funding searches in Pivot, as well as set up saved searches that generate personalized email alerts when opportunities match the search criteria. This session is a "How to" demonstration with screen sharing showing how to conduct a funding search. (Jonathan Parker) September 14 and 17
Updating Your Profile in Pivot
Review of the advisor function and the importance of profile content to maximize the effectiveness of the algorithm. A “How to” demonstration with screen sharing on updating a profile. (Jonathan Parker) October 19
Why is Your Research Important? Presenting the Need
A 40 minute working session for faculty interested in how to best present the project need as a first step towards grant proposal development. Participants will be able to connect need, pivotal in a sound proposal, as the anchor in the development of activities and as the reasoning behind resources requested in the budget. Looking Through the Lens of Peer Review Panels: Eight Point Criteria for Proposal Review and Ranking
A working session for faculty interested in how to best guide their proposal development. An eight-point criteria will be shared and discussed with participants in providing a reviewer-based rubric for proposal development. Participants will be able to use the criteria to develop, review, and finalize proposals within the point of view of a reviewer. Dr. Christopher Bellito will share his experiences as a peer reviewer and will discuss his successful National Endowment for the Humanities proposal with the participants. (Sheila Wegryn) October 12
Education Research: Connecting with the Spencer Foundation
A working session for faculty interested in learning about connecting with funding opportunities from the Spencer Foundation. With a focused goal on educational discourse, the Spencer Foundation opens several calls for proposals throughout the year. Participants will be able to learn the application process and to listen to Dr. Kihwan Kim, Dr. Kim Spaccarotella, and Dr. Keri A Giordano sharing their submission experiences and insights. Budget Development
This workshop on budget development focuses on the information prospective applicants need to know about Kean University’s policies and procedures. Topics include: salaries and fringe benefits calculations for faculty, staff and students with examples; how to pay consultants; the difference between equipment and regular supplies; travel requirements, and the rate for indirect costs and how it is calculated. POST-AWARD WORKSHOPS
Congratulations! You’re Funded. Now What? How to Effectively Manage Your Grant or Internal Award
This workshop focuses on the Kean University procedures you need to know to effectively manage your grant or internal award. The “how to” questions include: How to make sure your students get paid – entering and monitoring student research stipend payments, How to make sure your participants get paid – the steps for paying non-Kean personnel, How to monitor your grant spending – how to read the XCCI report from Ellucian. The Student Research Pathway at Kean University: How to Get Involved
This workshop will offer information on research and scholarly opportunities available and provide a research road map to students who are interested in getting involved. Students will learn how they can navigate the research pathway while adding value to their undergraduate resume, enhancing opportunities for admission into graduate and professional programs. National Fellowships: What Do I Need to Know?
This workshop will provide information on nationally-competitive fellowships and will offer program details, deadlines and application guidance.
