Experience New Jersey’s transition from a colony to a state in our

From Crown to Country program

Using period documents and first hand accounts of the Revolutionary struggle, museum educators dressed in period clothing transform the students into citizens of the colony of New Jersey. During the tour, the students will hear about Loyalists, Patriots and Quakers. The students also will hear the part Liberty Hall and its occupants played in gaining independence. The Tour concludes with the students being asked to sign, with a quill pen on parchment, one of three oaths: Loyalty to the King, Loyalty to the Patriots or To Remain Neutral.

Explore five distinct generations of childhood from the 1780’s to 1940’s in our
Changing Childhood program

Through the use of artifacts, reproductions and hands-on activities, students will discover what daily life was like for children long ago. Students will experience different aspects of a child’s life at Liberty Hall in the 1780’s (American Revolution), the 1820’s (New Nation), the 1860’s (Civil War), the 1900’s (Industrial Revolution) and the 1940’s (World War II). By comparing education, recreation, technology and lifestyles, students will grasp an understanding of how the world of the child is constantly changing.
