Minor in Interdisciplinary Sports Studies
The Sports Promotion & Communication Minor at Kean University is a 15-credit interdisciplinary program designed for students seeking careers in the promotional and media side of sport. The program builds practical skills in sports management, marketing, branding, communication, and event coordination—preparing students to engage audiences and elevate athletic organizations in today’s dynamic sports industry.
Through coursework that blends sport studies, marketing, and communication, students learn how teams, brands, and organizations promote their identity, connect with fans, and manage their public presence. This minor is ideal for students interested in working with professional or collegiate teams, sports brands, media outlets, or event and entertainment organizations.

“Teaching sports marketing, communication, and design as an interdisciplinary course reflects how the industry actually operates—where strategy, storytelling, and visual thinking must work together to engage audiences and build meaningful brands.” - Dr. Shweta Singh, Prof. Denise Anderson and Prof. Suzanne Schwab
“Taking the New Jersey Devils Interdisciplinary Course allowed me to collaborate with students with different educational backgrounds to help create innovative ideas in ways I never had before. I was provided with hands-on insights of how marketing, communication, and graphic design are all necessary components for a professional sports team such as the NJ Devils, and what it's like to be put in their shoes for a semester, which was an invaluable experience.” - Aidan Idell, Communication Major
