Want to examine environmental science principles in nature’s laboratory this summer?
Join us for a fun, informative and hands-on environmental science pre-college program that offers the opportunity to earn college credit or participate for personal enrichment.
Open to high school students entering freshman through senior years, Kean’s SkyLAB summer program is being held at Kean Skylands, located on over 40 acres of protected land in rural Jefferson Township, New Jersey.

Program Highlights
Introduction to Environmental Science & Sustainability: Dive into the world of environmental science! Understand the key concepts of ecosystems, climate change, sustainability, and conservation. You’ll explore how human activity impacts the planet and what can be done to protect natural resources for future generations.
Hands-On Field Research: Get outside and explore the environment firsthand! You'll collect data on air, water, and soil quality, learn how to use scientific instruments, and analyze the results in real-time.
Ecology and Biodiversity Studies: Study the balance of life in various ecosystems. Learn how biodiversity is maintained and the role different species play in sustaining ecological health. You’ll participate in species identification and habitat assessments to understand the importance of conservation efforts.
Sustainable Practices and Green Technologies: Learn about green technologies and sustainable practices used in industries today. Explore renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, eco-friendly building materials, and sustainable farming techniques. Understand how these innovations are helping to reduce carbon footprints and combat climate change.
Water Quality and Conservation: Dive into the science of water quality! Test the water at the Skylands campus and learn about pollutants, pH levels, and the importance of clean water. Discover ways we can conserve water resources and how they are managed for the future of the planet.
Climate Change and Environmental Policy: Explore how climate change is affecting ecosystems and communities. Learn about global warming, extreme weather events, and rising sea levels. You’ll also discuss environmental policies and the role of governments and organizations in addressing environmental challenges.
