Casey Mathern Named Executive Director of Galleries at Kean University

Kean University has appointed Casey Mathern as the new director of Galleries at Kean. An experienced gallery director and curator, Mathern brings a deep commitment to creating exhibitions and experiences that invite diverse audiences to connect with material and visual culture in meaningful ways.
Before joining Kean, Mathern led the William Paterson University Galleries, where she curated and managed a wide range of academic and community-based exhibitions. Her career also includes curatorial positions at several regional historical museums, where she worked with ethnographic, archaeological, and fine and decorative arts collections. She has been the recipient of and project manager for numerous public- and foundation-funded initiatives in cataloging, digitization, exhibition and audience engagement. Among her notable projects is a Mellon Foundation-funded retrospective honoring Jersey City–based artist Ben Jones. She also serves as a collections consultant for the New Jersey Association of Museums’ Artifact Assessment Program.
Mathern earned her M.A, in decorative arts, design history, and material culture from the Bard Graduate Center in New York City and her B.A. in art history from the University of Minnesota.
