Shaun Hunter secured an internship with the New Jersey Devils

Shaun Hunter, a senior in Kean University’s College of Business and Public Management, turned classroom experience into career momentum through an internship with the National Hockey League (NHL) New Jersey Devils.

Hunter credits his participation in Kean's course offered in partnership with the New Jersey Devils in helping him secure the opportunity. In the role, he applied classroom concepts and developed creative strategies in a fast-paced professional sports environment to keep fans engaged through digital platforms.

“Being part of an internship with the New Jersey Devils strengthened my skills in marketing and creative thinking,” Hunter said. “It also confirmed my passion for working in the sports industry after graduation.”

Through the internship, Hunter gained hands-on experience in sports marketing, digital activation and fan engagement strategies. He also worked directly with team leadership on strategic planning initiatives.

He attributes much of his growth to the hands-on learning environment at Kean’s College of Business and Public Management. Through his coursework, he strengthened his communication and problem-solving skills and learned to analyze real-world business challenges.

“Whether I was presenting case studies or analyzing current business situations, those experiences pushed me outside of my comfort zone,” Hunter said. “They helped me build confidence in speaking, leadership and problem-solving.”

As he prepares for graduation and a career in the sports industry, he encourages current Kean students to make the most of their time at the university.

“Take full advantage of every opportunity,” he said. “Get involved, network with professors, apply for internships early and put yourself out there. Kean’s College of Business and Public Management offers so many resources, but it’s up to you to use them.”
