Kean University will shift to remote operations on Sunday, October 12, due to the State of Emergency declared across New Jersey in response to the forecasted nor’easter storm. All classes scheduled for Sunday on New Jersey campuses will move to remote instruction, and all in-person activities are canceled.

Only essential personnel should report to work as required. Employees with questions should contact their supervisors for guidance. Keanu’s Kitchen on the Union campus will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday to serve residential students.

Kean Research - Spring 2025

Colleagues and Students,

I am thrilled that Kean has achieved the prestigious R2 designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This significant milestone recognizes our commitment to high research activity and doctoral education, placing us among a select group of institutions nationwide.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff and students. Our faculty's pursuit of innovative research and scholarship has led to increased grant funding and impactful discoveries. Our students, too, have actively engaged in research endeavors, contributing fresh perspectives and energy to our academic community.

Attaining R2 status enhances our ability to attract top-tier faculty and students, secure additional research funding and foster partnerships that drive innovation and economic development. It also enriches the educational experience we offer, providing our students with greater opportunities for hands-on research and learning.

As we celebrate this accomplishment, we remain committed to advancing our research capabilities and academic excellence. We will continue to support interdisciplinary collaborations, invest in research infrastructure and promote a culture of inquiry and discovery. Together, we will build upon this recent achievement to reach new heights in research, education and community engagement.

Later this month, Monday, April 21 through Wednesday, April 23, we will hold Research Days 2025, an annual event celebrating innovation, inquiry and discovery, bringing together scholars, researchers, students and industry professionals from a wide range of disciplines. I hope to see you there!
