Impending Winter Storm

Due to the impending storm, all classes and activities at Kean’s main campus in Union, Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands will operate remotely on Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26

The University will observe a Winter Wellness Day on Tuesday, January 27, following the storm. Classes and activities will not run, and employees are not expected to work.

Due to ongoing power problems at the Kean Ocean Gateway Building, all classes and activities at Kean Ocean will also be conducted remotely on Friday, January 23, and Saturday, January 24. This only applies to Kean Ocean.

Only essential personnel should report to work as scheduled during the remote period or on Tuesday. Employees with questions about their status should consult their supervisor.

Keanu’s Kitchen will remain open for residential students on the Union campus from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday.

All vehicles parked on the Union campus must be relocated to the Vaughn-Eames overnight parking lot by 6 p.m. on Saturday to allow for storm cleanup. Vehicles parked elsewhere on campus are subject to relocation.

Kean University Board of Trustees Approves In-State Tuition Rates for Students in Surrounding States

The Kean University Board of Trustees voted this week to apply in-state tuition rates to undergraduate students from several surrounding states, expanding access and opportunity for students across the region.

The new rates apply to undergraduate students from New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Out-of-state rates remain in effect for graduate students.

The initiative underscores Kean’s mission to provide affordable, high-quality education and strengthens its regional recruitment efforts as an R2 research university with four consecutive years of record enrollment and more than 18,500 students worldwide.

“This initiative is a natural next step in our strategy to expand access to Kean’s world-class, inclusive education and to draw talented students from across the region,” said Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. “It reflects our growth as a major research university and our continued commitment to equity, opportunity and academic excellence.”

The new tuition program, approved on June 23, will take effect for the 2025-2026 academic year. Both new and current students from the designated states and Washington, D.C., will be eligible for the in-state tuition rate. For full-time undergraduate students, annual tuition and fees will total $15,299.60, reinforcing Kean’s standing as New Jersey’s most affordable university.

“The Board is proud to support this important effort as Kean continues to grow and thrive,” said Steve Fastook, chair of the Board of Trustees. “Offering in-state tuition to students from neighboring states helps fulfill our promise of affordable education and strengthens our position as a destination for students across the region.”

Michael Salvatore, Ph.D., Kean University’s executive vice president for academic and administrative operations, said affordability is central to Kean’s mission of access and opportunity.

“By extending in-state tuition rates to students in nearby states, we are breaking down financial barriers and opening doors for more students to benefit from Kean’s innovative programs and supportive campus community,” Salvatore said.

The regional recruitment initiative reflects Kean’s continued dedication to social mobility, equity and public impact. By reaching more students across the region, Kean is building a broader, more inclusive academic community where students can pursue their goals and feel empowered to thrive and lead in an evolving world.
